Black Canary and the Huntress by craigcermak Black Canary and the Huntress by craigcermak
Commissioned piece of Black Canary and the Huntress. Always weird doing full page splash type images because I don't do them very often. I tend to have a hard time finding a balance in the piece because it's been so long. Anyway, I broke out the nibs for most of the background in this one since I've not nibbed it up for a while either. Kind of fun to just mess around. Hate the faces, but that could just be because I redrew them both a ton of times. Never satisfied.

Commissions are always available, just shoot me a message if you're interested.

More a fan of Huntress than Canary yet both are quite striking... both in appearance and fighting styles. I can see what you mean about the faces though it is more Huntress' face that jars with the rest of the image. Not so much with Canary. Otherwise it could easily be a scene from the comics where they just dropped a lot of trash in the gutters.

Very nice. Love the knock outs walking away from the knocked out. Great scene.

Thank you, I thought it was a nice idea too when the commissioner told me what she wanted.

Silly, those faces are just part of why I love this!!
Everything about this piece is wonderful & it'll hang in a special place on the art wall.

I'm glad it's in a loving, comic-art respecting home! Thanks for commissioning me to do this, too.

Huntress: So, Japanese later?

Canary: Anything but Italian.

Huntress: You're telling me!

My two favorite girls! Nice job with this man. Good job on the brick texture

Thanks Robert! Bricks are interesting to do, and most times I don't spend enough time to make them interesting (particularly when doing narrative pages since that already takes a long time). This I'd say I was about halfway where I wanted to be in the technical rendering of the bricks.

Bricks have always been tricky for me as well, but I think you did those very well. I really like some of your inking techniques!

Thanks, I still think I'm shit at inking but you know, haha, "artists," they never like anything they do.

Very true. I was told that a "true" artist never is 100% satisfied with their work. At least that makes me feel better haha
